Our beautiful Grade One buildings have stood the test of time, but stonework has become damaged by 175 years of weather and pollution. Parts of the stonework have been falling off onto the street below!
We’re delighted that the first phase of the scaffolding that was erected to facilitate the essential and major restoration work to restore and replace corroded stonework on the Cathedral site has now been removed.
Cathedral House - which not only houses the clergy, but also our various offices and meeting spaces - is now restored!
Work continues on the Cathedral itself, as the stonemasons continue with their painstaking task of ensuring the east window and its fittings are safe.
This restoration is estimated to cost the Cathedral Community £125,000 – this is a huge amount of money to raise so we are appealing to your generosity to ensure that our beautiful Cathedral may stand for another 175 years to the glory of God and his Blessed Mother.

We realise that these are difficult times financially for everyone. However if you are able to consider contributing in some way and would like to discuss this further, contact the Cathedral Office: St Mary’s Cathedral, Clayton Street West, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 5HH Telephone: 0191 232 6853 ext 200 Email:
Should you wish to send a cheque, please make it payable to ‘St Mary’s Cathedral’.
Huge thanks and sincere gratitude to all of those who have made generous contributions to this fund so far.
